Logs and tail

How peren logs and peren tail read the local service event file.

peren logs and peren tail are the same command under two names. Both read the local events log for one service and exit. Neither opens a live follow stream.

Requirements

  • --service is required and must name a service in the fleet config.
  • There is no --kind flag.
  • --node is accepted and unused.
peren logs fleet.toml --service api
peren tail fleet.toml --service api --level warn

Event file

While a node serves requests, Peren appends JSON lines to $PEREN_DATA_DIR/tail/events.jsonl, or to ./data/tail/events.jsonl when PEREN_DATA_DIR is unset. That file is the local events log. The CLI reads it, filters by service and optional level, and prints human-readable lines.

Output

The printed lines are for you to read. They can change between releases. The file on disk is JSONL. These commands do not print that JSON, and they have no --json flag.
