Exit codes
How to read peren exit status: success, a failed command, or a bad invocation.
peren reports status through the process exit code.

The command failed. Peren prints error: … on stderr and exits. |
2 |
The invocation is invalid: a missing argument, an unknown subcommand, or a flag outside its range. Peren prints usage text on stderr. Stdout is empty. |
Automation should treat 0 as success, 1 as a failed operation against a parsed command, and 2 as a bad invocation that must be fixed before retrying the same args.
Human-readable error text after error: is representative for operators. Prefer structured command output where a command documents a stable JSON or machine shape.
